Hyderabad gear up to host the Highlanders

Coach Shameel Chembakath all set to take charge of his first game as Interim Coach

Hyderabad: Hyderabad FC are back in action in the Indian Super League tomorrow.

The Nawabs host NorthEast United in a crucial clash for both sides at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Gachibowli on Monday, December 23.

The Highlanders are currently eighth in the table and have featured in just one league game all month so far.

Juan Pedro Benali’s side have been boosted by the heroics of Alaaeddine Ajaraie, who has 11 goals and four assists in 11 games this season.

Nestor Albiach, Guillermo Fernández, Míchel Zabaco, Parthib Gogoi, Jithin MS and Asheer Akhtar have also been consistent for Monday’s visitors, so far this season.

Hyderabad need to be at the top of their game against a clinical side in NorthEast, to try and get back to winning ways.

The Nawabs have struggled in recent games against some tough sides.

They had some promising moments, but have not made the most of it in some close games.

Coach Shameel will be incharge of the Yellow and Black in this game on the touchline and will hope for a change in fortunes starting Monday.

“NorthEast United is a strong team that needs the three points as much as we do in this game,” he said, speaking to the media ahead of this game.

“We have assessed their style of play and hope to implement our plans. But we are also ready to adapt to the game and hope to put in an improved performance,” coach added.

Allan Paulista, Edmilson Correia, Cy Goddard, Abdul Rabeeh and Ramhlunchhunga all need to find their goalscoring form.

Stefan Sapic, Alex Saji, Muhammed Rafi and Parag Shrivas have all been the mainstay at the back along with Lalbiakhlua Jongte.

But the backline has been unlucky and will have to work really hard to try and register a clean sheet in this game.

Coach Shameel will want to field his strongest XI in search of all three points on the night.

“NorthEast have some really dangerous players on the wings and we need to be solid at the back. We need to be sharp and play with a good intensity to fight for the three points,” the coach said.

“Keeping a clean sheet and improving on our finishing in the final third are our main targets and we want to enter into the second phase of the season with a positive result tomorrow,” he added.

The Highlanders have not beaten the Nawabs since 2019 but this clash promises to be a close encounter in Hyderabad.

The game kicks off at 7:30 pm IST on Monday, December 23, and will be telecasted live on Sports 18 and Asianet with free streaming on Jio Cinema.
