Hyderabad FC captain Alex Saji speaks to the media ahead of the first home game

Hyderabad: Indian Super League action returns to the Maidaan tomorrow as Chennaiyin FC come visiting for Hyderabad FC’s first home game of the new season.

Club Captain Alex Saji accompanied Head Coach Thangboi Singto to the pre-match press conference and spoke about signing a new deal with the club, the clash against CFC and more…

On signing new contract…

First of all, I would like to thank the coach, the management, the Jindal group, our new owners. It is a huge opportunity for me and I will give my best.

About the games, we did not get the results we wanted but we had a lot of positives to take from both games. As a team, we started a bit late but we are confident that we can fight and in the first home game, we will surely try to get some points on board.

Facing CFC after the result last season…

That result is in the past now. Chennaiyin are a strong team and this year and it will be a different team, not just for them but for us as well. We have young players but some senior players as well to help us and at the moment we are confident on our ability and positive about our chances. I am sure it will not be an easy game for us but we are ready to give our best in this game.

On contract extension…

I am thankful to the coach and management for the same. Coach Thangboi has seen me since I was 17 and I am happy that he trusts me with this responsibility. Being a captain is not easy but it is also a great opportunity for me to learn. We had a really strong captain in the last few seasons and I learnt a lot from him. We had a really strong group of players as well and there was plenty to learn from them and this experience will also be helpful for me this season
