Born and brought up in Wayanad, Kerala, Alex Saji is a strong and technically gifted defender, who can play in multiple roles across the backline. Having started his career with the famous Red Star academy, Saji has grown in stature by the year. He was a crucial part of the Gokulam Kerala side that won back-to-back I-League titles. Saji also started every game for the Malabarians in the AFC Cup Group Stage campaign recently and was called up for the U23 National Team by Igor Stimac late last year. He is a smart and hard-working defender, with attitude and game intelligence right up there with the best in his position in the country. He joined HFC after an impressive I-League campaign and made his debut for the club in the Durand Cup last year. Alex spent half a season on loan with the Highlanders but was back in the senior team at HFC in the 2023-24 season. Having put in some solid performances at the back, Alex has now turned into a senior figure at Hyderabad. He will lead the defensive unit for Thangboi Singto’s side, going into the new campaign.
