Ahead of his side’s clash against Kerala Blasters, Manolo Marquez speaks about the need to bounce back, the strengths of KBFC and more…
On the result against MCFC…
I only remember one clear chance that we missed. If Yasir would have scored that equalizer just before half-time, the game could have been very different. I am really satisfied with my team’s performance in the second half. These kinds of results are a part of football and it is important how you bounce back.
On the improving competition in the league…
Maybe because every team is in the same situation in a bubble in Goa, there is a very little gap between the sides in the league table. There are a lot of strong teams but more importantly, almost every team is at the same level. Most games are decided by small details and that is what has made the Indian Super League so popular.
On bouncing back from a loss…
In football you can win, draw or lose but what is important is how you come back after a loss. We don’t want to dwell on the last game’s result. We are mentally strong and I am confident we will put the loss behind us.
On Kerala’s season so far…
For me, Kerala is a very good team. They did not deserve to lose a couple of games that they lost in the last rounds. They have very good players and a coach that won the I-League last season. I think they deserve to be higher in the league table than their current position.
On changes for upcoming game…
I don’t think we need to change anything tactically. We can certainly improve on a few aspects of our game but with just one loss in six games, I don’t think we have to change too many things against Kerala.
A word on Kibu Vicuna…
I think Vicuna has one of the best attitudes for a head coach on the bench in the ISL. I know the situation for him is not easy at the moment, in regards to the league as well as personally. I would like to give him a hug when we meet tomorrow and am looking forward to a really good game.
