Hyderabad battle for spot in Super Cup Quarter Final

The Nawabs face Jamshedpur FC in the Round of 16 tie of the competition

Bhubaneswar: Hyderabad FC kick-off their Kalinga Super Cup campaign here in Bhubaneswar tomorrow.

The Nawabs take on Jamshedpur at the Kalinga Stadium in an 8:00pm kick-off in the Round 16 of the knockout competition.

Khalid Jamil’s side went out in a tough loss in the semi-finals of the Indian Super League recently and will want to make amends with a strong performance in this game.

The likes of Javi Siverio, Rei Tachikawa, Jordan Murray, Stephen Eze and Javi Hernandez have all troubled the Nawabs in the past, making JFC a tough side to face.

Hyderabad FC Head Coach Shameel Chembakath, however, believes that his side are ready to take on this challenge.

“Jamshedpur is a tough team. They play in different ways. In the first phase of the game they often go with direct play. There are many situations in which they keep possession and use buildup play,” he said, speaking about his Round of 16 opponents in the Super Cup.

“We need to be more patient and see how they approach this game tomorrow. I think we are prepared and ready to take this challenge,” he added.

Hyderabad FC will want to work on the positives that were on show in the recently concluded league season.

Andrei Alba, Arshdeep Singh, Alex Saji, Stefan Sapic, Isaac Vanmalsawma, Manoj Mohammad and Allan Paulista have been consistent and will have a tough task ahead of them in this tie.

The likes of Muhammed Rafi, Parag Shrivas, Ayush Adhikari, Abdul Rabeeh, Ramhlunchhunga and Abiijith PA will also want to make a mark in Odisha.

“The boys are ready and confident. We are preparing well, perfecting our tactics, and training with great intensity,” he said, speaking about his side’s preparations.

“We need to be solid in defense and convert any chances we create; that’s one of the positive things we need to do tomorrow,” he added.

Hyderabad and Jamshedpur played our two entertaining games, with both teams winning their home ties in the regular league season.

But with a knockout game beckoning, with penalties to decided a stalemate at full-time, Hyderabad and Jamshedpur will want to give their best in this clash.

The game kicks-off at 8:00pm on Thursday, April 24, and will be streamed live on JioHotstar.
