Hyderabad enter maiden Indian Super League final

HFC win semifinal tie 3-2 on aggregate

Goa: For the first time in the history of the club, Hyderabad FC have registered a place in the finals of the Indian Super League, inspite of a narrow, 1-0 defeat in the hands of ATK Mohun Bagan at Bambolim on Wednesday. They go through 3-2 on aggregate after two nerve-wracking ties.

Roy Krishna scored the only goal of the night as Hyderabad stood strong to hold on to their two-goal advantage from the first leg to knock the Mariners out of the semi-finals.

Laxmikant Kattimani, who pulled out two astounding saves, was the ‘Hero of the Match’ on the night, as he stood strong all night to deny ATK MB on quite a few occasions.

Juan Ferrando’s men pushed high all night and had a few chances to take the lead but the likes of Aniket Jadhav, Bart Ogbeche and Mohammad Yasir also had their chances at the other end in what was a tough night for Hyderabad.

The backline of Juanan, Chinglensana Konsham and Akash Mishra put on a spirited performance along with Nim Dorjee Tamang who was up against an in-form Liston Colaco. Nim helped by Souvik Chakrabarti and Joao Victor managed to keep the Mariners from creating too many clear-cut chances.

Hyderabad rode on first-leg lead, and were determined to see out the game with a strong performance, even as the game ran for over 100 minutes before the final whistle finally came.

The Indian Super League final will be played in front of a full crowd in Fatorda on Sunday, March 20.
