Hyderabad register third consecutive ISL victory

HFC beat FC Goa 1-0 at Gachibowli; Keep third consecutive clean sheet for the first time in history

Hyderabad: Manolo Marquez’s men continued to impress in the Indian Super League this season, after a remarkable 1-0 victory in a tough game against FC Goa at the GMC Balayogi Athletic Stadium in Gachibowli on Saturday.

Javi Siverio (11’) turned match-winner as HFC registered three successive wins in the ISL for the first time in their history. This win takes Hyderabad back to the top of the table, with 10 points after four league games.

The game at Gachibowli had a dull start, with a fair few stoppages, but Javi Siverio and Bartholomew Ogbeche were on their toes to combine in the eleventh minute of the game and take HFC ahead.

It was Ogbeche’s flick on that Siverio latched on to and finished off in style to open his account for the current ISL campaign.

FC Goa hardly managed to trouble the HFC backline for most of the first half, as Manolo’s men went into the break with a comfortable lead.

But it proved a tougher battle in the second half as the Gaurs came out strong and started to create a few chances.

Alvaro Vasquez wasted the visitors’ best chance of the night, as he put his spot-kick wide with less than 10 minutes to play. Akash Mishra was unlucky to give away the penalty but Goa failed to make the most of a glorious opportunity to equalize.

Laxmikant Kattimani pulled off a blinder of a save late in the game while Odei Onaindia and Chinglensana Singh, aided by Akash Mishra and Nikhil Poojary put their bodies on the line to keep Hyderabad in the lead.

Javi Siverio was the Hero of the Match on the night with a match-winning goal while Halicharan Narzary came close with a shot off the post while Sahil Tavora, Aaren D’Silva and Abdul Rabeeh all came off the bench to stretch the FC Goa defense.

But it was a team effort that never gave the visitors a foothold in the game as Hyderabad registered successive victories on their return to the Gachibowli Stadium.

They are back in action when they take on Odisha FC at the Gachibowli Stadium on Saturday, November 5.
