Hyderabad’s Super Cup campaign ends after 1-2 loss in Manjeri

Manolo Marquez’s men go down to Odisha after Mauricio, Victor cancel Siverio’s opener

Manjeri: Hyderabad FC’s debut Super Cup campaign came to a halt at the Payyanad Stadium on Monday. Manolo Marquez’s side lost 1-2 to Odisha as goals from Diego Mauricio (55’) and Victor Rodriguez (86’) helped them overturn a 1-0 deficit that Javi Siverio (11’) provided early in the game.

Hyderabad had Borja Herrera play in an attacking role and the Spaniard, who created the first goal, was at it all night, troubling the Odisha backline. Siverio could have had a couple more goals with crosses from Sahil Tavora and Joel Chianese giving him great chances in front of goal.

However, Clifford Miranda’s side came out of the break really strong and the HFC defense was under pressure till the end. Mauricio scored from a scrap inside the box after a corner, Rodriguez sealed the deal with just minutes to play after Hyderabad were caught napping behind, conceding the winner.

Manolo’s men needed to win the game to qualify, but ended their Super Cup campaign, second in Group, with four points in three games.

But they are back in action one last time this season when they take on ATK Mohun Bagan in a playoff for an AFC Cup qualifiers’ spot on Wednesday, May 3.
