Hyderabad fall to defeat in tough Punjab clash

Thangboi Singto’s side went down to 10-men in 2-0 defeat

Delhi:  Hyderabad FC fell to a tough defeat on their trip to the Capital City on Wednesday.

The young HFC side went down 2-0 to Punjab FC with goals from Ezequiel Vidal (35’) and Filip Mrzljak (71’) in either half.

Leander D’Cunha was booked twice and saw red with over ten minutes to spare on what proved to be a sturdy night in Delhi.

Skipper Alex Saji pulled out a couple of goal saving blocks while keeper Arshdeep Singh was also tested more than he would have liked.

The midfield of Cy Goddard, Lenny Rodrigues and Ayush Adhikari along with Devendra Murgaonkar and Abdul Rabeeh stuck to their task for most night.

However, Punjab FC, as a unit stayed strong and managed to negate most of what was thrown at them in defence, registering their third consecutive win of the campaign.

The Yellow and Black also saw two of their stars make their Indian Super League debuts in Delhi.

Brazilian attacker Allan Paulista, who joined the club just this week and young defender Danmawia came off the bench in the game to get their first taste of top-flight league football in India.

Coach Thangboi will hope that his side can bounce back when they welcome Chennaiyin FC to Hyderabad.

The teams clash at the Gachibowli Stadium on Tuesday, October 1.
