Luck evades Hyderabad at the Maidaan

The young Nawabs put on a spirited show but EBFC claim narrow 1-0 win

Hyderabad: Hyderabad FC and East Bengal FC played out a thrilling Indian Super League clash here at the Gachibowli Stadium on Saturday.

The young Hyderabad side put in a solid performance but were beaten by an 11th-minute goal from Cleiton Silva, as East Bengal ran away narrow winners on the night.

The likes of Ramhlunchhunga, Joseph Sunny, Makan Chothe, Joao Victor and Abdul Rabeeh tested the East Bengal back line for most of the night.

Jeremy Zohminglua came off the bench and hit the bar as well. However, the Nawabs failed to find the back of the net, before defender Alex Saji and skipper Joao Victor were both sent off for picking up a couple of yellow cards each late in the game.

Alex Saji put in a goal-saving block and kept the likes of Silva and Phobes Brown quiet for most of the game. Gurmeet Singh also pulled out a couple of superb saves but it was not to be for the youngsters on the night in Gachibowli.

The youngsters are back in action when they travel to Bengaluru for an action-packed Saturday evening at the Kanteerva Stadium on February 24.
