Hyderabad end ISL season with a draw

Sourav K steals the show; Scores stunning equalizer in a 1-1 thriller

Hyderabad: Shameel Chembakath’s Hyderabad FC put in a solid performance against the Kerala Blasters here at the Gachibowli Stadium on Wednesday.

Dusan Lagator (7’) opened the scoring for the visitors, heading in from a set-piece.

But Hyderabad FC star Sourav K stole the headlines on the night, with his acrobatic effort just before halftime.

The winger pulled off an overhead bicycle kick, thumping the ball into the top corner.

The connection mid-air from Sourav is one of the best the league has ever seen as the No. 27 gave the HFC faithful a goal to remember for a lifetime.

It was his first Indian Super League goal, and as good as an equalizer can get.

Hyderabad pushed hard for a winner after the restart and had a chance to take the lead quickly after the break.

Abijith PA, who was having a solid game in the midfield, was bought down inside the box and HFC were awarded a penalty.

Andrei Alba stepped up in the 52nd , and put it to the right of Nora Fernandes but the shot-stopper was up to the mark and pulled out a decent save.

Replays showed that Nora was off the line and the penalty kick should have been retaken, but the same was missed by the referees and the game continued all square.

Devendra Murgaonkar, Isaac Vanmalsawma, Edmilson Correia, Cy Goddard and Alex Saji all had half-chances but could not find the back of the net.

Stefan Sapic, Manoj Mohammad, Abdul Rabeeh and Arshdeep Singh were also at the top of their game, keeping the visitors quiet for most of the game.

Midfielder Ayush Adhikari put on a massive showing in the middle of the park and was also named the ‘Player of the Match’ on the night,

Ayush created 3 big chances, won the ball back seven times in the midfield, to add to the four fouls he won on the night.

It was an all-round effort from the Yellow and Black, who were unlucky to run away with a just point on the night.

Hyderabad end the season with just one loss in their last seven league games at home.

Allan Paulista, with four goals to his name, remains the top goalscorer for the club this season.

Ramhlunchhunga, with two goals and three assists, has the joint-highest goal contributions for Hyderabad this season (Allan Paulista has four goals and an assist).

Chhunga also created 26 chances all season, with only Cy Goddard (27) creating more for his team.

Skipper Alex Saji leads the charts for blocks this season.

The HFC No 4 pulled out 31 blocks all season, which is a league-high for the 2024-25 campaign.

Arshdeep Singh on goal was also one of the most consistent players for the club.

He registered a total of 60 saves in the season at 3.8 saves per 90, which is also the highest in the league.

The Nawabs gave away just 204 fouls in their 24 league games, which is the best disciplinary showing in the league.

They were also cautioned the least, with just 40 yellows brandished to the Yellow and Black all season.

Coach Shameel’s team showed plenty of heart, with lots of positives to take from a tough Indian Super League season.

The Yellow and Black will be back in action next month in the Super Cup, the schedule of which is yet to be announced.
