Indian Super League, Round 4

Ahead of our clash with ATK Mohun Bagan in the Indian Super League 2020-21, we take a quick look at the squads, the opponents’ form and the key players to look out for.

Opponent Coach

The only manager to win two titles, Antonio Lopez was part of the winning sides in 2014 and 2019-20 with ATK. His familiarity with the squad and experience in the league will be a key factor in ATK Mohun Bagan’s performance. The Spanish manager also brings in experience from his coaching stints with the Bolivian national team and Valencia CF.

Squad

ATK Mohun Bagan have made notable signings in Tiri, Bradden Inman, Sandesh Jhingan, Manvir Singh and Subhasish Bose while retaining their core group of players. The partnership between the new recruits, Tiri and Sandesh Jhinghan in defence will be crucial for the hosts. Another key duo for ATKMB on Friday will be that of Manvir Singh and Roy Krishna upfront.

Form

Having won their opening three games in a row against Kerala Blasters, SC East Bengal and Odisha FC without conceding goals, the Mariners dropped points for the first time as they went down 2-1 against Jamshedpur FC on Monday.

ATKMB have shown depth and variety in their squad with all-round performances. They have put on display a strong backline this season and charging through their defense could be a test for HFC attackers. The pace in their attack will also keep Hyderabad’s defenders busy.

Key Men

Roy Krishna (ATKMB)

ISL’s joint top-scorer in 2019-20, Krishna has spearheaded the attack with four goals for his side this season.  He has scored in every game and has created opportunities consistently. The Fijian will look to cause trouble in the Hyderabad backline with his clinical footwork, precise finishing and burly physique.

Manvir Singh (ATKMB)

The Indian forward has worked in tandem with Krishna to create chances for The Mariners on several occasions. He has been instrumental in ATKMB’s attack with his tireless running and hunger for goals.  Manvir’s quick pace will keep HFC defenders on their toes making it a contest to watch out for.

Tiri (ATKMB)

The Spaniard has been at the helm of ATK Mohun Bagan’s defence in all their games. Tiri will stand tall in ATKMB’s backline against Hyderabad’s attack with the help of his ability to read the opposition’s movements.

Liston Colaco (HFC)

Liston has been a threatening presence in Hyderabad’s lineup with all-round performances with contributions in defence as well as attack. The youngster’s speed and accurate passing paired with his intent to score will create problems for The Mariners’ defence.

Mohammad Yasir (HFC)

Yasir has shown his instincts on the ball and effectively regulated possession for HFC in all the games. His agility, adept ball control, darting passes and stylish footwork will pose a threat to ATKMB on Friday.

Joao Victor (HFC)

The Brazilian has been at the heart of all midfield operations for HFC. Playing alongside Hitesh Sharma and Mohammed Yasir, the trio have managed to control the game in the midfield. Joao’s ability to break up opposition’s play alongside his aerial prowess and possessional organization, make him a commanding force against ATK Mohun Bagan.
