A Malappuram-born defender, who went on to play for Mohammedan SC, Shameel Chembakath is a well-known figure in Indian football, having turned into a coach after an impressive stint as a professional footballer. Coach Shameel last played for Bengal Mumbai before earning his way into the academy at Kerala Blasters, where he acted as the U15s and reserve coach for over three seasons. He joined Hyderabad FC as the reserve team Head Coach in 2020, and helped the HFC youngsters to a Durand Cup Semi-final, before being promoted to the first team. Coach Shameel joined the senior side in 2022 and has since made a name for himself in the ISL, getting the young Hyderabad FC reach their potential on and off the field. He is now a mentor to many a young gun in Yellow and Black and is also a popular figure among the fans going into the new season. Coach Shameel will act as the Indian Assistant Coach for the new ISL season, hoping to introduce more young talent to the top flight of Indian football.
